Position Summary:

As a Lead Traveling Service Technician, Service Sales you will safely mentor more junior technicians to inspect, troubleshoot, install components and repair wind turbines and turbine internal and external components and review manuals and schematic diagrams to determine the tasks, tools, equipment, and parts needed and will coordinate the plan of days, help troubleshoot complicated issues, and oversee the day to day operations of the technicians. You will work a field-based role within the Aftermarket Sales department that performs a variety of site activities including, but not limited to, maintenances, inspections, retrofits, large component exchanges, and repairs. This position requires a person to travel as needed for extended periods within the U.S. and Canada but also could be performing work at one specific location for an extended period with little to no travel.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Develops and maintain working shifts for junior techs and subcontractors
  • Maintains inventories within special project scope (Material, tooling, etc)
  • Act as a single point of contact for the job, ensuring proper parts, tools, and labor are available and onsite to complete expected scope. Track job completion and provide regular updates to management and customer.
  • Completes progress trackers for aftermarket sales project
  • Ensures Work Orders are closed and completed on time
  • Ensures that safety is first in all work activities, including the right to stop work if a potential hazard is identified, working with team members to be aware of site conditions and the risks associated with work.
  • Identifies, uses, inspects, and cares for company-provided tools, equipment, vehicles, and personal protective gear.
  • Understanding of direct current electricity, alternating current electricity, and electronics
  • Performs major corrective repairs, including complete replacement of gearboxes, on wind turbines, maintenance, inspections, retrofits, large component exchanges, and repairs as assigned throughout North America and Canada safely and efficiently following company procedures and processes.
  • Diagnoses, analyzes, and resolves issues on wind turbines.
  • Utilizes specialized tooling and equipment to perform activities.
  • Identifies potential hazards and communicates to management.
  • Follows defined instructions and schedules, executes plans as directed, and performs according to the instructions from Resource management.
  • Establishes and maintains proper business relationships with customers, subcontractors, and peers, as well as performing necessary administrative duties accurately.
  • Utilizes appropriate safety gear, and protective equipment, and control or dissipation of energy sources to ensure work is performed safely.
  • Maintains, properly, tools and equipment used to perform repair activities
  • Communicates project status to management to facilitate customer communications.
  • Monitors project performance to keep vendors, cranes, and Nordex staff on task, on time, and on budget.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements:

  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • A 2-year degree in wind turbine technology or a similar field is strongly preferred
  • 4+ years of field service experience preferred with operations and maintenance, troubleshooting, inspections, large component exchanges, and repairs of wind turbines
  • Technical knowledge (installation, replacement, and troubleshooting) of generators, gearboxes, motors, power converters, switchgear, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and control systems.
  • Ability to provide detailed technical reporting of issues within a wind turbine
  • Ability to train other employees in operations, maintenance, and repair procedures
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally for extended periods and also requires working overtime, including flexible and variable work schedules as needed to meet business needs 
  • Able to work independently and on a team in a fast-paced setting
  • Ability to be certified and work with both medium and high-voltage equipment
  • Maintain required training certifications such as rigger/signal person certification and crane calling certification
  • Ability to read, interpret and understand drawings, schematics, instructions, and schedules 
  • Ability to plan, organize and execute projects, meet deadlines, prepare reports
  • Experience with the coordination of resources including subcontractors (internationally and domestically).
  • Excellent organizational skills including attention to detail and multitasking.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, and professionalism.
  • Use Microsoft Office Suite – Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Able to support on-site teams with technical support and as needed perform work up-tower to complete the training/job.
  • Follows and presents Nordex HSQE processes, and audit teams as required.
  • Performs pertinent operational and departmental tasks as required.
  • Motivated, goal-oriented, persistent, and organized.
  • High level of initiative and works well in a team environment.
  • Handles stressful situations and deadline pressures well.
  • Plans and carries out responsibilities with minimal direction.
  • Must possess a full valid U.S. driver’s license
  • Ability to obtain a U.S. Passport and ability to travel internationally.
  • Qualified candidates must be legally authorized for employment in the United States and will not require employer-sponsored work authorization now or in the future for employment in the United States
  • Ability to meet specific OSHA and ANSI weight limits of 265 lbs. max.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical administered by a medical examiner to ensure the ability to safely perform job functions and meet the physical demands of the position
  • Driving is an essential function of the job. Must possess a full valid driver’s license and be insurable under our auto insurance policy. This position will be subject to periodic driver’s abstract checks to confirm continued insurability.
