Position Summary:

As a Construction Manager, you will take ownership of project performance during the construction phase, including safety, quality, schedule, budget, and client satisfaction. You will also be responsible for the day-to-day management of a multi-discipline electrical infrastructure project test, analyze and troubleshoot the mechanical and electrical components, and identify wind turbine defects to perform repairs during the commissioning phase of a wind farm project.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Leads the Site Construction and Commissioning Teams in Canada.
  • Quotes, creates, and maintains all site budgets and provides accurate forecasting of future costs.
  • Develops personnel and subcontractor resource plans to meet project requirements and provides direction and key decision-making related to the pre-planning and execution of project plans.
  • Coordinates with functional areas to ensure that work conforms to legally required and company quality standards, including federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations, where applicable.
  • Creates proposals for additional opportunities within the USA and Canada concerning all site services.
  • Drafts and negotiates construction-related agreements, covenants, or official correspondence on behalf of the organization.
  • Develop and present organization projects, capital, and operating expense budgets and identify cost reduction opportunities for analysis and implementation.
  • Serves as company representative at wind farm construction project reviews with customers and contractors.
  • Coordinates with functional areas to ensure the Safety and Environmental compliance of the company personnel and subcontractors following federal, state, and local policies, practices, and procedures during project execution.
  • Ensures all personnel and subcontractors meet company technical and safety training requirements
  • Represents Nordex within the industry
  • Travels to project sites and customer meetings required (50% travel)

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent work experience); advanced degree a plus
  • 5-7 years or over 500 MWs in Project or Construction Management; concentration in the wind energy industry and construction
  • Strengths will include excellent communication skills, organizational ability, and positive leadership traits, along with in-depth knowledge and use of negotiation skills
  • Complete fluency with the whole Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Demonstrated successful interaction with key customer executives, development and construction management
  • Prior experience managing multiple large-scale construction projects and negotiating contracts
  • Working understanding of cost accounting, budgeting, and contract implementation
  • Fluency in Spanish or German is a plus
  • Experience managing field technical resources
  • Excellent organizational and proven leadership skills
  • Proven track of resourcefulness and ingenuity in resolving project-based challenges
  • Demonstrated ability to manage several activities at once, prioritize work, meet deadlines, prepare reports, and generate best practice guidelines
  • Significant time commitment is required during the execution period of projects
  • Extensive travel required between headquarters, training center, and projects
  • Microsoft Office Suite proficiency required
  • Extensive performance data analysis using Microsoft Excel
  • Ability to communicate performance via effective PowerPoint presentations
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to communicate with all levels of the organization  
  • Entrepreneurial mindset and willingness to perform the work to accomplish objectives
  • Knowledge of the mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, fiber optics, their function, and repair wind turbines Nordex and Acciona technologies
  • Strong leadership, communication, organizing, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to prioritize work, multi-task efficiently, meet deadline obligations, prepare reports, and outline what is best practice.

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite required
  • Ability to spend 100% of the time at the wind farms during the commissioning process
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise several activities at once, organize/prioritize work, meet deadlines, and prepare reports
  • Ability to move and manipulate up to 23kg (50 pounds), climb vertical ladders, and work at heights above 100+ meters (300+ feet).Ability to meet specific weight limits of 120 kg (265lbs) max in order to utilize climbing equipment.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical administered by a medical examiner to ensure the ability to safely perform job functions and meet the physical demands of the position
  • Ability to work in confined spaces, handle weight up to 100 pounds, and wear full personal
  • protective equipment.
  • Ability to analyze and solve problems independently with a high level of results orientation
  • as demonstrated by the identification of non-conformities, completion of punch lists, and the
  • application of a structured approach to mechanical and electrical troubleshooting.
  • The ability to obtain a passport for overseas travel required
  • Ability to successfully complete all Canadian regulatory laws surrounding pre-employment screening requirements.
  • Must be able to work in Canada with no Company sponsorship and have the ability to obtain a US passport.
