Nordex has an exciting opportunity for the role of Special Operations Manager covering the UK and Ireland region.
Contract Type: Permanent
Location: The role can be based at any of our UK and Ireland service points with regular travel to windfarms and service points across the region
How can you make a difference?
Working as part of the UK/IE Regional Field Support Team, the Specialist Operations Manager is responsible for managing a team of specialist Technicians which includes:
- HV Maintenance Technicians
- Blade Technicians
- Commissioning team
- Major Component Technicians
- Lift and Statutory inspection team
This postholder will ensure that specialist team complete their allocated activities within specified timeframes, according to the required standards, and will be the main point of contact for customers and Service Operation Managers regarding specialist technical topics associated with the turbines.
What will you be doing?
Key activities for this role include:
- Responsibility for HSE in the respective service area, implementing internal and external regulations as required to ensure HSE compliance
- Actively engaging and driving safety and safe working practice improvements in the Service area
- Responsibility for the financial performance of their Service area including Budget performance and planning
- Responsibility for Service areas KPIs
- Leading regional teams to ensure that work is carried out effectively, safely and to the required standard, setting targets and reviewing performance.
- Driving continuous improvement in performance, cost and efficiency
- Responsibility for the recruitment and development of the different specialists including identifying any training needs in order to maintain performance standards.
- Promoting the service of the specialist team to customers and offering tenders for specialist work.
- Ensuring efficient resource planning of all dedicated specialist technicians.
- Working alongside service management to plan and coordinate site-based activities relating to Blade, High Voltage, Major components and Lifts.
- Ensuring that quality standards are met at all times.
- Responsibility for cost control and stock levels of materials required for the specialist activities.
- Managing large operations (such as gearbox, blade, generator, transformer, switchgear exchanges) and improvement initiatives.
- Managing customer specialist topics and ensure proper communication throughout.
- Reviewing site reports: Maintenance, HSE,SAP, timekeeping and ensuring on time submission
- Performing regular checks on their employee’s time tracking to ensure compliance with employment law and submitting correct data for payroll purposes.
- Project management of specialist fault investigations including completing reports
- Sourcing of suitable subcontracts for specialised tasks and coordination of the work.
Organisation and attendance at customer meetings in relation to the specialist topics
What are we looking for?
The successful candidate will have experience of working in a leadership role within the wind industry or a similar sector and be experiences in managing remote field-based roles across the UK and Ireland.
You will hold a formal qualification in Mechanical and or Electrical Engineering and have either a qualification or relevant experience in business management. The successful candidate must also have excellent computer literacy skills with the ability to use MS Office, in house databases and workload management systems.
You will be experienced in dealing with complex business issues and are able to demonstrate strong communication and negotiation skills

There is a requirement for the postholder to travel on a regular basis which will include regular nights away from home.
