Master Thesis Aerodynamics

Date: 2 Apr 2024

Location: Hamburg, DE, 22419

Company: Nordex Group

The in-house aerodynamic rotor blade design is a crucial aspect of every Nordex turbine. In addition to basic aerodynamic development tasks, our team also calculates and simulates various characteristics of the turbine. One of the key areas of focus is studying the performance of airfoils under icing conditions, which has a significant impact on the overall performance of the wind turbine's rotor blade.

Your Tasks

  • Conduct a comprehensive literature review on airfoil icing
  • Utilized simulation models to study ice accretion on airfoils with and without vortex generators
  • Conduct 2D and 3D simulations of airfoils in various icing conditions using CFD
  • Analyze and post-processed simulation data to draw meaningful conclusions
  • Documentation and presentation of the work

Your Profile

  • Currently pursuing a Master's degree in Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering
  • Possess a strong understanding of airfoil aerodynamics
  • Experienced in mesh generation and CFD
  • Possessing programming knowledge in languages such as Python, C/C++ would be advantageous
  • Fluent in English, with knowledge of German or other languages being an added advantage
  • Possess a self-organized personality and can handle complex technical problems with ease
  • Capable of working effectively in a multilingual and multicultural team
