The Legal Department acts as a business partner to all business functions relating to the activities of Nordex Group in the Region UK & Ireland, mainly in the field of general commercial, construction and corporate law. The team’s main focus is on the preparation and negotiation of complex agreements for the supply and installation of wind turbines and ancillary works for wind farms, including associated maintenance agreements, sub-contracts, financing and collateral instruments. The Nordex Group Legal Department is a global team of lawyers, operating out of a number of locations, including, in Europe, Germany, United Kingdom, Ireland, Finland, Sweden, Spain, and France, and is divided into several teams with a regional and/or functional focus.

 

The position will be based in Manchester at our Didsbury Office.

 

The position reports disciplinarily into the VP Region UK an& Ireland and functionally to the VP Legal Europe; the tasks and responsibilities of the Legal Director UK & Ireland, subject to operational need and assigned focus area of activity, comprise, in particular:


Key Accountabilities

  • Ensuring high quality and on time legal support for all relevant business matters across the Region UK & Ireland (except for employment law and tax law matters)
  • Representation of the legal function in the management team of the UK&Ireland Region and the relevant country organizations and advising/supporting the relevant management members on all legal aspects associated with the Nordex Group’s business activities in the region
  • Mentoring, coaching and supervising the regional legal team.

 

Tasks

  • Drafting and negotiating complex contracts for the supply and installation of wind turbines both on a clean sale and a turnkey (EPC) basis, including related service and maintenance contracts, as well as other project-related contracts with suppliers, service providers and lenders
  • Supporting all relevant operational functions during the wind farm project implementation phase on all legal issues
  • Advising on disputes and contentious matters, in particular in the context of warranty claims, always in close collaboration with the relevant corporate functions and external legal advisors
  • Advising the local entities of the Nordex Group in the Region on corporate law issues (corporate housekeeping and compliance)
  • Drawing up sample contracts
  • Conducting internal training on relevant legal topics

Job Experience

  • Post-graduate degree in law in the UK or Ireland with above-average results
  • Admitted to practice law in the UK and/or Ireland (current professional license, to be maintained in good standing)
  • 8+ years of relevant professional experience in a commercial law firm or a corporate legal department, ideally in the field of construction, mechanical/plant engineering or the energy industry
  • Extensive experience in the autonomous drafting and negotiating of complex supply agreements in the context of large infrastructure projects or machinery equipment
  • Strong commercial and technical understanding
  • Proficiency in another EU language considered as an advantage

Willingness to travel regularly within Europe (estimated amount of traveling is 30% of work time)
