Job Summary: The Quality Engineer is responsible for ensuring that rotor blades meet Nordex quality standards and customer requirements throughout the manufacturing process. The role involves final blade inspections, in-process quality control, non-conformance management, quality documentation, supplier support, audit participation, and continuous quality improvement initiatives to enhance product quality and manufacturing performance.

 

Key Responsibilities

Final Product Inspection & Acceptance

  • Perform final inspection and acceptance of finished rotor blades in accordance with Nordex specifications, drawings, and quality standards.
  • Verify dimensional accuracy, structural integrity, paint quality, and surface finish against acceptance criteria.
  • Conduct customer witness inspections and support product release activities.
  • Identify, document, and disposition quality defects prior to shipment.

In-Process Quality Control

  • Monitor and support in-process quality inspections throughout blade manufacturing.
  • Ensure adherence to manufacturing procedures, work instructions, and quality requirements.
  • Detect process deviations and non-conformities and drive corrective and preventive actions.
  • Support process validation and set approval activities to ensure quality compliance.

Non-Conformance & Quality Issue Management

  • Handle Incoming Non-Conformance Cases (INC) through the ServiceNow (SNOW) portal.
  • Investigate quality concerns and facilitate root cause analysis using structured problem-solving methodologies.
  • Coordinate with production, engineering, and supplier teams for timely resolution and closure of quality issues.
  • Support implementation and effectiveness verification of corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).

Supplier & Production Quality Support

  • Collaborate with blade suppliers and internal manufacturing plants to improve product quality and productivity.
  • Provide technical guidance on quality requirements and inspection standards.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives aimed at defect reduction and process optimization.

Audits & Customer Interface

  • Participate in internal, supplier, and external quality audits as a Nordex representative.
  • Support customer audits, inspections, and quality review meetings.
  • Address customer quality concerns and ensure timely closure of audit observations.
  • Maintain professional customer relationships while ensuring quality compliance.

Reporting & Documentation

  • Prepare, review, and maintain quality records, inspection reports, and manufacturing documentation.
  • Generate inspection summaries, customer inspection closure reports, and quality performance dashboards.
  • Ensure complete traceability of products, inspections, and quality records.
  • Analyze quality trends and prepare management reports using quality metrics and KPIs.

Leadership & Coordination

  • Plan and coordinate inspection activities to support production schedules and delivery commitments.
  • Manage inspection priorities and resource allocation effectively.
  • Escalate critical quality issues and support decision-making during production and customer inspections.
  • Coordinate cross-functional teams to resolve quality concerns within defined timelines.

Technical Skills

Inspection & Quality Assurance

  • Strong understanding of rotor blade drawings, manufacturing specifications, and quality standards.
  • Expertise in final blade inspection and acceptance criteria.
  • Knowledge of composite manufacturing processes and defect identification.
  • Paint and surface finish quality evaluation.
  • Preparation of inspection reports and quality documentation.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Composite Engineering, or related discipline.
  • 4–10 years of experience in Quality Assurance, Quality Control, or Manufacturing Quality, preferably within Wind Energy, Composite Manufacturing, Aerospace, Automotive, or Heavy Engineering industries.
  • Hands-on experience in rotor blade manufacturing and final blade inspection will be preferred.
