POSITION SUMMARY

The role of Service Lead Technician Special Operations – Major Correctives supports the organization's mission of delivering reliable renewable energy solutions through the safe execution of major corrective maintenance activities on wind turbines. This position provides technical leadership and field expertise for major component exchanges, complex troubleshooting, recommissioning projects, and specialized service operations across Canada and North America. The successful candidate will lead field teams, support continuous improvement initiatives, and ensure the highest standards of safety, quality, and operational excellence.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

• Lead and support the safe execution of major corrective maintenance activities, major component exchanges, and turbine recommissioning projects.
• Serve as the technical lead for specialized service operations, including statutory inspections, blade inspections, blade repairs, lift inspections and maintenance, and major component repair activities.
• Provide technical leadership, coaching, mentoring, and guidance to technicians and field teams during corrective maintenance projects.
• Coordinate and organize field activities to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with company quality standards.
• Support teams in diagnosing and resolving complex turbine faults and technical challenges encountered during major component exchanges and corrective maintenance activities.
• Manage lifting operations in coordination with crane providers, subcontractors, and external service partners.
• Develop, review, and implement lifting plans when required, ensuring all applicable safety and operational requirements are met.
• Ensure all tools, lifting devices, and equipment maintain current certifications and are fit for safe use.
• Coordinate field teams, contractors, and subcontractors during project execution.
• Act as the primary customer contact for project updates, technical discussions, and status reporting.
• Serve as a Special Operations Project Manager when required in regions where dedicated project management resources are unavailable.
• Lead the continuous improvement of corrective maintenance processes, technical procedures, and operational practices.
• Support the development and delivery of operational and technical training programs.
• Evaluate technical competencies and support the professional development of field technicians through training and mentoring.
• Facilitate communication and collaboration across teams regarding major component exchanges, repairs, and specialized service activities.
• Prepare and submit major component repair reports, service records, and other project documentation.
• Maintain service vehicles, tools, equipment, inventory, and service locations in a safe, organized, and operational condition.
• Ensure compliance with all applicable health, safety, environmental, quality, and regulatory requirements.
• Promote a culture of safety and accountability among employees, contractors, and subcontractors.
• Participate in pre-job planning, hazard assessments, toolbox talks, and risk mitigation activities.
• Support material planning, inventory management, procurement, and logistics associated with major corrective activities.
• Review deficiency reports, identify root causes, and develop corrective actions to improve operational performance.
• Provide technical expertise related to major component exchanges, specialized tooling, and complex repair strategies

WHAT YOU WILL HAVE:

Education & Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Post-secondary education in Wind Turbine Technology, Electrical Technology, Mechanical Technology, or a related technical field is preferred.
• Minimum of four (4) years of experience in the wind industry, including troubleshooting, maintenance, major corrective activities, major component exchanges, or specialized wind turbine operations.
• Experience leading major component exchanges, corrective maintenance projects, or other complex field service activities is strongly preferred.
• Demonstrated experience leading or mentoring technicians in a field service environment is considered an asset.

Knowledge, Skills & Competencies

• Strong knowledge of wind turbine mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
• Composite repair experience preferred.
• Understanding of epoxy and polyester resin systems.
• Knowledge of wet lay-up and vacuum bagging techniques.
• Experience handling balsa and foam core materials.
• Experience performing structural repairs and fiberglass reinforcement repairs.
• Working knowledge of powered hand tools and associated safety requirements.
• Understanding of quality requirements related to temperature, humidity, and repair specifications.
• Ability to read, interpret, and understand complex technical drawings, schematics, procedures, and work instructions.
• Ability to obtain and maintain certifications required for medium-voltage and high-voltage electrical work.
• Demonstrated leadership ability with proven experience coaching, mentoring, and developing technical personnel.
• Strong troubleshooting, diagnostic, and root-cause analysis skills.
• Ability to effectively prioritize work and adapt to changing operational requirements.
• Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
• Strong organizational and time management skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and mobile field service software.
• Experience generating reports, maintaining documentation, and managing electronic service records.
• Ability to maintain required certifications, including rigging, signal person, crane-related, and other technical certifications applicable to the role.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with customers, contractors, and internal stakeholders.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.

Travel & Physical Requirements

• Ability and willingness to travel up to 100% throughout Canada, the United States, and internationally for extended periods.
• Must be legally authorized to work in Canada without current or future employer sponsorship.
• Must be eligible to travel to and work in the United States for business, training, and project assignments as required.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a valid Canadian passport and any required travel documentation.
• Willingness to work overtime, rotational schedules, weekends, holidays, and flexible work schedules based on operational needs.
• Ability to spend extended periods away from home while supporting field operations.
• Ability to climb and work at heights exceeding 100 metres.
• Ability to work in confined spaces and varying environmental conditions, including heat, cold, humidity, dust, precipitation, and noise.
• Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and equipment weighing up to 32 kg.
• Ability to safely use fall-protection equipment and meet the physical demands associated with working at height.
• Valid driver's licence with the ability to maintain insurability under company vehicle insurance policies.
• Ability to successfully complete a pre-employment medical assessment and meet all physical requirements of the position.

Working Conditions

• This position requires field-based work in wind farms, construction sites, and operational renewable energy facilities.
• Work is primarily performed outdoors and may involve exposure to changing weather conditions, including extreme temperatures, wind, rain, snow, dust, humidity, and noise.
• Work may require climbing wind turbines up to 100 metres in height and working in confined spaces.
• The position may require frequent travel, overnight stays, shift changes, overtime, and emergency response support.
• Employees are required to wear and maintain appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times, including safety glasses, hearing protection, protective footwear, hard hats, and any additional site-specific safety equipment.

The pay for this role is non-exempt at $47 - $50 CAD hourly with up to a 5% bonus.  Individual compensation packages are based on various factors unique to each candidate, including skill set, experience, qualifications, and other job-related reasons.
