Position Summary:
As the Regional HSE Officer for Canada, your duties will include assessing and procuring security products and equipment to safeguard all employees across all facilities. You will also provide ongoing EHS support to branch leadership and operating teams in the designated Region(s), which involves coaching, teaching, and training field personnel on safe operating practices. Additionally, you will utilize your expertise to advise and guide internal clients on developing effective safety and risk control programs and help them establish sustainable loss improvement processes within their operations.
Responsibilities:
- Develops, implements, and maintains core Industrial Safety and Hygiene policies, procedures, and systems based on ISO 45001:2018 Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS) to simplify and streamline the Nordex North America environmental program requirements within the Dominion of Canada.
- Provides regulatory analysis, advice, and expertise for emerging, proposed, and existing regulations at Federal, Provincial, or Municipal levels.
- Represents Nordex Group when dealing with external organizations and regulatory bodies.
- Assesses reports and data compiled by contractors, consultants, government agencies, and others to determine environmental impact and ensure compliance with technical specifications or regulatory and/or permit requirements.
- Provides support for preparing regulatory reports, or other compliance submittals.
- Assists with managing (including the screening and selection) contractors assigned to supporting various projects. As part of risk management responsibilities, review the work product of contractors, and identify needs to meet project expectations.
- Participates in professional, industry, and/or regulatory organizations and associations, as required, to help achieve Nordex’s strategic goals in shaping legislation, provincial and federal agency policies/guidance, etc.
- Conducts audits of North American sites specific to the Dominion of Canada to determine compliance with internal and external statutory orders and regulations (SORs) requirements.
- Other responsibilities as assigned
Requirements:
- Honours Bachelor's Degree (Bachelor of Science) with an advanced degree preferred, or equivalent work experience.
- Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) or an equivalent professional designation is desirable
- Experience with programmatic (Compliance and Performance) audits/inspections including record-keeping, and action-item resolution
- 5 - 9 years of progressively responsible experience in a Corporate Safety Department and wind farm experience desirable.
- Advanced technical knowledge of Industrial Safety disciplines (General Industry, Construction, Behavior-Based Safety, etc.) related to the construction and operation of power generation projects and related to Canadian Federal, Provincial, or Municipal levels of laws and regulations. And/or U.S. federal, state, and local laws and regulations
- Able to complete OSHA 500 or 501 trainer/CanOSH of Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS) to provide access to health and safety information for employees – Preferred already authorized
- Proven Industrial Safety leadership skills, and an ability to coach and lead environmental efforts.
- Ability to positively represent the Safety process to internal and external stakeholders.
- Must possess the ability to think and analyze situations in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated ability to be innovative, initiate and manage change, and deliver results.
- Strong written and oral communication and interpersonal skills are essential, most importantly strong team-building skills within a rapidly growing environment.
- Must be capable of positively influencing the management team when necessary.
- Independent, detail-oriented, creative, tenacious, and flexible are essential characteristics.
- Proficient in the following application programs: Microsoft Office (MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Explorer, PowerPoint), Adobe Acrobat Standard, Photo Editors, and iPhone applications.
- Must meet the weight requirement of 120kg (265 lbs.) or less to safely utilize climbing equipment and climbing gear.
- Must be able to work in Canada with no Company sponsorship and have the ability to obtain a US passport.
- Driving is an essential function of the job. Must possess a full valid driver’s license and be insurable under our auto insurance policy. This position will be subject to periodic driver’s abstract checks to confirm continued insurability.
- Ability to successfully complete all Canadian regulatory laws surrounding pre-employment screening requirements.
