Manager, PtX Origination (m/f/d)

Position Summary:

The Manager of PtX (Power-to-X) Origination and Marketing will be responsible for originating offtake agreements for a portfolio of large-scale green hydrogen and derivates fuels projects in the United States is being developed through a partnership between Nordex and Acciona. This person will play a vital role in commercializing multi-billion dollar projects and will contribute to creating new markets for green hydrogen and derivatives fuels supply. The successful candidate will be part of an entrepreneurial global team and will work closely with our project development team and senior management to guide business models, market strategies, and revenue management. This position can be fully remote and will report to the VP of Development.

 

Responsibilities:

 

Origination

• Lead the offtake strategy for a multi-gigawatt portfolio in the United States, with support from the development team (internal plus external partners) and other functional leaders in the business (finance, legal, application engineering, public affairs)

• Develop partnerships or alliances with off-takers including the consideration of potential equity investment into the projects

• Efficiently utilize channels (brokers, commodities traders, associations, conferences, Nordex or Acciona customers, professional networks, etc.) to source strategic offtake opportunities

• Explore opportunities to leverage available support mechanisms such as DOE Loan Guarantees, Hydrogen Hub funding, and IRA tax credits

• Create, foster, and manage relationships with senior leadership of potential PtX customers across industries including chemical and industrial gases, traditional oil and gas, utilities, aviation, steel, maritime shipping, long haul trucking, ammonia/fertilizer, ports, and export markets

• Coordinate with internal constituents, third-party advisors, and customers to craft non-traditional, bankable offtake structures for hydrogen and derivative fuels products

• Leverage broad experience of structured transactions to articulate risks internally and appropriately bound them contractually or analytically in anticipation of non-recourse project financings

• Lead contract negotiations of definitive offtake agreements, including LOIs, MOUs, Term Sheets, PPAs, etc.

 

 

 

Market Intelligence and Strategy

• Provide PtX market intelligence to inform new greenfield or acquisition opportunities and reposition exiting development assets to capitalize on emerging hydrogen sectors

• Track and report on offtake intelligence from other deals reached in the industry

Advise on regulatory and market changes for the hydrogen sector

Represent the company at industry conferences and events

 

Finance

Collaborate with the finance team to produce revenue and pricing analysis for financial pro forma models to assess the financial viability of projects and support project financing

Develop pricing strategies that align specific projects with potential demand, corporate goals, and overall asset value maximization

 

 

Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree in MBA, JD, or STEM discipline, or CFA preferred

5+ years’ experience in investment banking, corporate finance, M&A, commodity trading, energy market advisory, project development, or commercial leadership

Experience structuring and leading the negotiation of long-term offtake contracts for energy commodities is required

Experience in risk management products for energy sales (e.g. financial hedges, energy swaps, nodal pricing, etc.)

• Deep understanding of standard and highly-structured energy commodity transactions, power markets, and the key players

• The successful candidate will have the skills and knowledge to create partnerships that bridge the renewable power sector and energy molecules sector (e.g. petrochemicals, ammonia, and hydrogen)

• Familiarity with building and/or maintaining complex project finance models

• Strong professional relationships and reputation in the power and/or petrochemical industry

• Demonstrated ability to build relationships with off-takers, at the individual and company level

• Ability to manage simultaneous projects/work streams, set priorities, and exercise independent judgment
