Manager, GIS (m/f/d)

Position Summary:

 

The GIS Manager will be responsible for GIS platform development and GIS analysis for a portfolio of global power-to-X (PtX) projects being developed through a partnership between Nordex and Acciona. This person will develop and maintain a web-based GIS platform to support a global portfolio of PtX projects, including associated wind, solar, battery storage, hydrogen production facilities, and transportation. In addition, this role will produce GIS tools, analysis, and products that are essential to the prospecting diligence of new sites, progression of projects in development, preliminary site design efforts, portfolio communications, and overall project development strategy.

 

This position can be fully remote and report to the VP of Development.

 

Responsibilities:

 

GIS Platform Development

  • Build out a web-based GIS platform in ArcGIS Online (or similar software)
  • Source data layers from public and private sources to incorporate and maintain an up-to-date GIS platform

 

GIS Analysis - Greenfield Prospecting

  • Integrate GIS data covering a wide range of categories, including real estate ownership, government boundaries, PtX resource inputs (e.g. wind, solar, water, CO2, etc.), land characteristics (e.g. slope, wetlands, flood zones, sub-surface conditions, etc.), siting constraints (e.g. FAA, conservation areas, T&E species, zoning restrictions, etc.), PtX transport options, and PtX demand centers
  • Assist Project Development and Origination teams with prospecting strategies for siting new projects

GIS Analysis - Project Development

  • Coordinate the acquisition or creation of new GIS data layers as needed or requested by project development
  • Establish cartographic design standards for high-quality map production and presentation that will assist in consistently communicating GIS-related project and portfolio-level information
  • Produce various spatial and data analyses
  • Complete constraints and buildable area analysis
  • Interface with the design engineering team to facilitate preliminary PtX project layouts
  • Remain abreast of hydrogen and renewable energy technologies, markets, and regulations impacting the future of green hydrogen development

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in GIS or closely related technical discipline such as Computer Science, Geography, Earth Sciences, or Engineering
  • Demonstrable competency in basic programming related to cloud-based GIS platforms for distributed users, ArcGIS Online preferred (e.g. JavaScript, Python, R)
  • A minimum of 3 years of professional experience in GIS, preferably with ESRI products
  • Experience extracting data from online resources
  • Experience working with multiple spatial files formats including CAD, KMZ, Shapefiles, Rasters, and Geodatabases
  • Comfortable with open-source tools for geospatial data science
  • Independent problem solver
  • Comfortable working in a startup environment
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills and high level of attention to detail
  • Experience in renewable energy development preferred, but not required
